Description

Due to ongoing COVID restrictions and lockdowns, we are offering our barista course online (for the theory component), so you can complete the boring stuff at home during lockdown, and then have longer doing the hands on fun stuff when we can all meet again.

Purpose

Whether you're searching for your first barista job, or you're an existing cafe employee looking to improve your skills and gain a nationally recognised statement of attainment - this is the course for you! Offered at the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, this course teaches you the skills required to be a great barista.

Duration

The online theory component is self-paced and should take around 5 hours to complete.

The practical component is approximately 4 hours.

Entry Requirements

You must be 14 years old or more to participate in this course.
* Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
* Basic computer skills
* Knowledge of common computing terms and word processing
* Proficiency sending/receiving e-mail including e-mail with attachment
* Familiarity with the Internet

Qualification Requirements

On completion of this course you will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. This qualification provides a pathway to work in cafes and coffee shops, or to further study in the Certificate III of Tourism or Hospitality.

Assessment Requirements

You will be assessed by trainers with the relevant qualifications in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Skills Authority (ASQA). This assessment will take the form of direct observation of practical tasks and written questioning which will take place online.

Delivery Mode

The practical component is delivered face-to-face at the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (or an agreed workplace). Class sizes are kept small to give you the maximum time possible practicing to make great coffee.

The online theory is delivered via our e-learning platform.

Materials or Equipment Required

You should wear enclosed leather shoes when completing the practical component. The cost of the course also includes a light lunch. If you are not feeling well prior to the course please advise us and we will change you to another course. You will not lose your money so please keep everyone safe and stop the spread if you're unwell.

When enrolling into this course your contact information will be shared with the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL). Both MTTEC and MCSL may also record or photograph parts of the training workshop for promotional reasons. Please advise your trainer if you do not give permission for your image to be used.
